Little Mermaid & Ugly Duckling The Smart Playground™

Little Mermaid & Ugly Duckling

Par : Kompan

This module is inspired by two popular tales by H.C. Andersen: The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid. Attractive images encourage role-playing and imagination, both in free and guided play. On the Ugly Duckling side, we can associate the various elements with the tale, starting from the bottom left-hand corner, where the ugly duckling is intimidated by the other birds in the henhouse, to the top right-hand corner, where he transforms into a beautiful swan at the castle lake. The eggs are a direct reference to the tale, as are the duckling, the swan, the naughty chicken and the ugly turkey. On the other side, the tale of The Little Mermaid begins in the bottom left-hand corner, where the bottom of the sea is depicted, and ends in the top right-hand corner, where the mermaid, hidden behind a rock, gazes longingly at her beloved prince’s ship. The materials and playful elements in this module are highly varied and can be manipulated to stimulate the imagination and bring H.C. Andersen’s fabulous stories to life. These elements encourage naming, explanation, comparison, argumentation and sequencing of messages.
